What is the point of a sack lunch - if any at all?

I sent my teen Sim to school with the first ever sacked lunch I have ever prepared - ever. He didn't eat it - he has a spoiled sack lunch in his inventory. I only notice it when I told him to do...

My sims eat their sack lunch, but I never let them eat breakfast before school or work. They leave the house with yellow hunger bar.
I make my teens to prepare their lunch sack, it builds their cooking skill.
