Yea.. The expansion sounds fine to me. Really don't get what any of the fuss is about. If us simmers are willing to pay for all these 'half baked' expansions (if that's what people think they are,) of course they will keep making more of the same.
But for me personally it's fine. I never buy them full price anyway. I don't expect them to be the same as the other versions. I would much prefer something new that I haven't played with 3 times already! And to be honest if they worked on new ideas it would lower the amount of comparisons everybody has to the previous games!
That's the thing though I guess. On the one hand, people want TS4 to do things TS3 didn't because otherwise they call the ideas unoriginal, but on the other hand they also seem to criticise every piece of content TS4 doesn't include that TS3 had because whatever it's replaced with is gonna be worse on principle xD personally I don't think that for some people they'll ever make a satisfactory pack at all, no matter what they do. Because it isn't TS3 and those who are still waiting for 4 to become more like 3 will always end up disappointed. There's no way around that. Just like some hated TS3 and never warmed up to it during its entire lifespan either. That's unfortunate but it seems to be the way of the sims somehow... And it's okay to not like something, it really is. But I admit that every now and again I wonder why people who haven't played in TS4 in years are often the ones who make the most critical threads about it. Like...why? Not talking about you, it's just a weird phenomenon on this forum xD
I disagree. It seems to me that most of the time, the problem some have with new EPs is not just that they didn't include everything from Sims 2 or 3. It is more the imbalance between not including features that were major, and replacing them with other features that are too simple or superficial. For me for instance, not including common types of weather like hail or deep snow in an EP concentrated on Seasons (+ not including festivals and other feature of the previous iterations) has a big impact on the amount you get for what you pay, considering it was there in past iterations of the EP that had the same price as this one. So if you don't include as much content on the topic of weather, you would have to include other things that seem like they require the same amount of work and are worth the same amount of money. And I think the problem is, very often, some people (me included) think those additions are not worth as much as the features not included. I don't think it has anything to do with wanting the exact same game as the previous ones. I think it just has to do with wanting as much and as important content as what we pay for.
Now I have to specify that in this particular instance, it is hard to say if that will be the case, since we don't know in detail how much in depth the calendar will be. But the problem comes from the blog which definitely doesn't mention game changing new things we could do with it imo. So I understand some worry about it. I do too.
