Cemeteries...

Hi peeps,

What do you think of the Life & Death cemetery lots and how many have you added to your game? At the moment I only have them in about three different worlds, but each time one of my beloved sims dies I really feel like they should be buried in their home town. I'm seriously thinking of adding one in every world that is bigger than about 4 lots lol (so, not Glimmerbrook, Forgotten Hollow etc). Do you think that's overkill? What are you all doing with your graves and urns?

  • So... I just checked and you can hold funerals at various lots like lounges, parks and even wedding venues so that helps me out a lot - I will be adding the relevant funeral items to some of my churches etc. For anyone who wants to know, apart from cemeteries (of course lol) these are the lot types which came up in my game when I went to plan a funeral:

    • Bar
    • Café
    • Generic
    • Gym
    • Karaoke bar
    • Library
    • Museum
    • National Park
    • Nightclub
    • Onsen bathhouse
    • Park
    • Pool
    • Recreation centre
    • Residential house
    • Spa
    • Thrift store
    • Wedding venue

Wow, that's a great list! Sorry not to see Retail on the list, because my Cathedral is tagged retail (the high priest's household runs the church's gift shop selling lots of green stuff (my religion is about the green bars) and not the least wedding bouquets.)

Did not expect Gym and Spa, but it is certainly good for combo lots! Recreation centers might become my typical venue for funerals if they do not take place in a church. I'll have so much fun planning all this! :)

PS: It might be a good idea to make a basement, adding all relevant objects there and easily switch between weddings/funerals whatever, and maybe not all objects will be used every time. I just did that for the Ravenwood cemetery lot, and wheeee do I have lots of CC flowers ;)

PS2: I might also try to set a no-match lot temporarily to Generic, just for the funeral.

Thanks for the list. A bit disappointed not to see community spaces up there, as I use them for churches in my game (with mandatory objects in an inaccessible basement). That way I can easily switch between weddings, funerals and such, but if you can't host funerals at them I might need to reassign them as something else.

  • I haven't placed one yet and I am not intending to add one to every world. Just like I don't need a bar and a museum and a library in every world, I don't need a cemetery everywhere.

Being buried in their home world sounds like a sensible thing to do. I think I might add a cemetery to every 'region' . On for the more European inspired worlds, one of the desert like worlds, one for the non-desert American worlds,... I think around 3 or 4 in the entire game.

  • I haven't gotten around to building yet

but so far I'm thinking new venues in Oakenstead in Willow Creek and Akiyama lot in Mt.Komorebi

also editing some of my existing church type venues in Windenburg and Henford

for deserts I have my Olive Specter in Strangerville now so her lawn will do 😂 (joking but tbh that does solve lots of problems)

aand then I'll have what is in Ravenwood already 🤔

might have something in Ciudad Enamorada since I'm trying to build monastery there but not sure

and as much as I'd love to have something for occults I don't really know where I have room to put it 😂

some of my sims might also just like to stay buried on their own backyard as usual :)

I have this little place in Forgotten Hollow which is ideal for supernaturals.

  • I plan adding graves to smaller graveyards that are not tagged cemeteries. I always had small graveyards, but not as a full lot. In a few worlds the graveyard is actually behind a pub, lol. In another it is a snip of a lot that is a Spa. I can travel to Ravenwood for hanging out on a real cemetery, but I don't expect to do that very often. I have not tested if my plan will work, I might be in trouble if we can only throw a funeral ceremony at a cemetery, but I would find that too limiting as a town hall, a lawyer's office or a room at a castle should be good, too, in my book. If problem, I might throw another sort of event but use funeral decorations and actions, I'll just miss out on the do-this-do-that. My sims don't need to throw a gold or silver funeral, if that is even possible. I'll find a way for them to use a lot in their home world.

Multi-purpose cemeteries sound good and now I'm wondering which type of lots we can hold funerals at. I would have liked to be able to have churches that we could hold both weddings and funerals in.

Would have actually been so nice to have one lot type that could switch between normal, wedding, funeral 😅

Would you place one in the large park in Myshuno as well?

You've got me thinking now, about placing a cemeteries around in some of the worlds as well. Possibly even exchanging one of the lots I already have in Newcrest, too. Right now I've been creating personal burial grounds as needed, when an active sim passes and I get a gravestone to place. (I usually set these on their home lot.)

  • I haven't played with any except the one that comes with the pack. But I really love the idea of having cemeteries for my vampires and macabre sims. Cemeteries are such perfect settings for those stories, especially with the dark, creepy vibe of Mourningvale.😁
