In TS2 such conversations register. I have sims that when they started out knew only the welcome wagon sims. I exit that household for a while in course of rotational play. Come back to 1st house and the sims knows at some level seemingly half the sims on the planet. All through those sorts of interactions noted above.
I miss the older games so much. :'(
