I have seen that speculation but I don't personally understand it. I get why people feel it may be Scandinavian, but then why wouldn't it just be based on the actual Scandinavian region of the world? It seems like people were initially focused on the Pacific Coast due to lumber mills and the red woods, which made sense, but when the Scandinavian thing popped up it just got mashed into the preexisting speculation of an American environment. But mills aren't American.
I tend to think they are going to be pulling from several places with good werewolf lore and mixing those elements together. If that be the case it would make sense if we see elements from France, through Germany, up into Norway (Basically Western Europe)..
Someone in another thread joked about the new world being based on Minnesota and people just jumped on it.
I don't think it was a joke. There are a lot of people of Scandinavian descent in Minnesota, more than anywhere outside of Scandinavia itself. A lake with a Norse name is something you might find there (they do have over 10k lakes, after all... and lots of forest... and a basketball team named Timberwolves)
It may make some sense but if you go to the other thread you will see that the person who first mentioned Minnesota said that they were joking at the time. And why give us Minnesota when they could give us Norway.
Minnesota. Norway. Please give us a world full of fog that isn't tiny like Forgotten Hollow. That's what I want from Moonwood Mill.
I do like both Minnesota and Norway. Of the two I love Norway most.
