But i have never cared about collecting (I don't do that in any games unless there are serious bonuses at the end of it). I get like 3-4 crystals to fill my gym area with for the energetic bonus and that's it.

I like to do the Curator aspiration with teens -- it's one of the aspirations you can finish without having to be an adult, and you can sell collectibles like crystals, metals and fossils to the Simsonian Museum for a lot more money -- you can get a couple of hundren Simoleons for something that's normally only about 10 or 20 Simoleons. Then later on if you have a Sim in the family that's an astronaut and gets the aliens or the geodes, you can sell those too and make a bunch of money. My main Sims are getting close to retirement, and one of them has the Appraiser trait from finishing the Curator aspiration; she's got a bunch of crystals and metals and such in storage, so when I get ready to move them out, she'll take all of those with her and when I get her and her husband settled in a small place, I'll have her sell everything and use that to upgrade the house.
