It doesn't have to be a prom, though. My school had 3 dances - Homecoming, King of Hearts - which would have been our "love day" dance- and Prom. And a "Morp" to go with each one for people who didn't want to go to the big fancy dance downtown (our proms were never in school facilities, always at a hotel or country club)
I think it would just make the most sense since this event is basically prom without it actually being called prom. Even the follow up message after the option was chosen alludes to the party being prom. For continuities sake it would be a good idea but I guess we'll need to wait and see what they do.
Yeah, there are a lot of school pop-ups that we'll have to see what happens. It's been long enough since I saw a Love Day pop up that I don't really remember the text of the follow up.
On the other hand, really the difference between Homecoming, KoH, and Prom was the theme, the court, and the time of year. Oh, and Homecoming and KoH were open to the whole school, while Prom was Juniors and Seniors only. But they were all formal high school dances, which really aren't very different from each other.
