what's up with the hats?

What's up with the awful outfits in general? Even at festivals I find them annoying. I tried searching for a mod to fix it but sadly I couldn't find anything. I know townies always dress a bit random but I see them often with no pants or silly costumes. That I don't like so much.

Sadly this has been around forever now. I think since GT. Not a new bug at all. Townies get spawned in what are called "situational outfits" that you can't change because they are a hidden outfit category that doesn't show up in CAS. They are made for festivals, the weirdo sims in San Myshuno, some weather related outfits, and walk bys(i.e. sims that randomly "walk by" your sims house during the day). The outfits that the game generates usually make little to no sense to the actual situation they were spawned for, and include copious amounts of accessories, mismatched clothing, and any and all types of hats. I think they tried to fix it once but it never really worked.

I have spent months dressing every of my 350+ Sims, adding seasonal clothing where it was missing to keep the randomness from happening, but whenever one of these sims pass by my lot they appear as the game's RNG sees fit.

I would understand if this would only happen to randomly generated townies, but if the outfit categories have already been assigned, why throw the dice of terrible taste again?

It's a situation outfit; there are lots of different hidden situation outfit categories apart from festival ones. There's one for sims walking through a neighborhood, for example. There's also one for sims walking in the rain. These aren't anything new, so I'm not sure how the issue only cropped up recently for you (unless you recently bought a pack which adds more of them.)

Did you check out Bienchens Mods? She has many different mods against wierd outfits. You need to scroll down a little bitt. The discription is also in English.

Yes, they are as people have said situational outfits, it also seems like the tags used for situational outfits are broken, so clothing that has nothing to do with the situation shows up. The latest ones that I have noticed are some weird outfits that are only visible in some parts of Del Sol Valley? One seems to be for celebrities while I have seen situational outfits on normal NPC's in another place in Del Sol Valley.

I have no idea why maxis are adding them, some outfits seem to make little to no sense, like the fake vampires situational outfits which spawns normal sims (not vampires) in vampire clothing during nights. Why would you ever want that?

MC Command center can remove most of them in the settings "Replace situational outfits". Since I have one save with aging turned off with 200 sims with customized outfits I find this feature/bug very frustrating.

My biggest beef is seeing glasses pop onto the face of a Sim when you're selecting their pajamas! Those of us who wear glasses know you don't wear them to BED. Well, sometimes you might so you can see the TV screen (like my hubby) but one should remove them prior to seeking sleep!

I just wish they would quit redressing my families I play with. I have 4 families, they have their outfits and yet somehow they wind up with outfits I didn't choose, please stop.

I wish they would do away with situation outfits alltogether. Tired of my not-currently played sims wearing awful outfits. I spend a good amount of time in CAS assigning outfits for them, as we do, and I feel that time is wasted when the game just throws some random stuff on them because there's a "situation". And most of them have that idiotic eyeball ring, that I'd never ever in a million years would put on any of my sims.
And yes, hats. Especially turbans. They look good on some people, but not half the population.

Agreed. Of the last few sims I created about 60% of them were generated with glasses for ONLY the sleepwear category.
