What's with the Bulbous Nose Trend?

I see tons of simmers (mostly in the Maxis Match) style making their sims with these huge, bulbous looking noses these days, I think it's through using presets? Clearly this is a trend now? I am at a loss over this.

  • I think it is mostly because it matches well with the CC they are using.
  • I think that might be related to the "Berry sims" trend. I've noticed noses like that popping up in the randomizer when making sims.

Most of my sims don't look like that. I have one or maybe two who look a little bit like that. There's definitely one with that nose but I've said that's a genetic quirk of hers.

I do my own thing and I have sims with a lot of different types of noses. I wouldn't mind more options but I also wouldn't specify that they need to be a certain way, just that more are better.

I pretty much avoid trends about how sims are "supposed" to look and I make them how I want. Most of mine are probably "hot but quirky and realistic". I have some nerdy sims but even they are what you would likely call attractive nerds. I wouldn't say they are Barbies either. I like having varied genetics and for them all to have different back stories or backgrounds.

I just probably don't fit any of those molds. I mean, I have an actor sim who probably does look a bit like a Ken Doll but that's the whole point of him. He was Judith Ward's butler and he was just abnormally good-looking so they had to secretly get together so that he could pursue fame. He got progressively hotter as he kept working out, so now, it's totally plausible that he got discovered and is some dreamboat actor. His appearance is actually really funny, "Are you for real?" Judith thought he was too nice so she basically lost interest because she wanted more drama and she craves instability to propel her fame. He's looking for someone genuine unless he gets corrupted by fame.

Most of my sims are hot and nerdy regardless of background, typically with features that make them a bit unique in some way.
  • Ah, I have used that nose before, but just not as pronounced in the example above. However, I think she looks cute, it suits her.
  • Yes that nose is an example of what I am talking about, though I've seen many even more extreme than that. I TRULY don't get it as I've seen no single live person in my adult life whose nose looks quite like that. I feel like it completely detracts from the rest of her quite nice face. And to me it in no way adds character when tons of other people are making sims the exact same way, or they make all their sims this way.

@GalacticGal your sim (and her nose) are super cute!

@ChampandGirlie it sounds like I would love your sims! It's hard to make sims in a variety of ways. Irl people who are attractive yet also quirky looking in some kind of way are my absolute favorite. I find it really hard to recreate that in making sims though, so that's awesome that you can do that. That's probably why one of my favorite sims I'm playing with right now is actually the child of Vlad. He looks mostly like his mother, but did get Vlad's prominent chin. In spite of him not being traditionally beautiful, he is unique to me and his non-conventional look has really grown on me! Also thanks for explaining the "Berry Sims" being part of it, I'm not familiar but I will look into it to try to understand it better!

I guess maybe some people are using them because they're popular right now, or maybe some people want to go for a look that's different from what the game can provide on it's own.
  • @ladysweettart Thanks, maybe I'll be persuaded to share some. I've avoided uploading and sharing my stuff before but "if I knew it was going to a good home", I would. Lol. I have about 200 sims approximately, some born-in-game and some that I made.

I'd probably be friends with most of my sims.

Vlad is a childless loner in my game but I've kept my vampires kind of "Dracula-like". I agree with you about unconventional sims that are interesting. A lot of mine are like that.

  • idk that just looks kinda like my dads nose

(yes random observation my moms nose is also kinda like vlads in shape except less extreme and I am shook)

though would say shading is probably off
I feel like they might be using some skin thing that just has bit iffy shading at nose

seen some of those in my past cc days with ts3 where the skins would just make sims have very weird dolly baby face regardless of their actual features
