Congratulations on achieving memberhood. :)
I tend to have mostly "white" Sims -- boring, I know. But I have played Sims of different ethnicities; in one save I had my Sims adopt most of their children (the mom had a really rough pregnancy with a bunch of morning sickness), and one of the children was of Indian ancestry, so I changed his name from Jeremiah (the name the game assigned) to Sumit which means "a good friend". When I played the Purdue household (from the base game library) Ollie, the male married Aicha, a woman he wished for at the Wishing Well, and their children were Kiara, Jamal and Jamilah (boy/girl twins). If there's an obvious cultural tie-in, I'll go with a name from that culture. I'll do the same with townies when I go into Manage Households and adjust wardrobes, often changing the names the game gave them (especially if I get a lot of Sims with similar names who aren't related). I use sites like Behind the Name for first names, and Google surnames for various cultures (lately Indian and Asian with CL or Latin American with JA) to find unique names.
