It depends on the sim, it depends on the family.
- One family may name all their kids with a Norse theme, another family may be going more vanilla with the names. Depends on the parents.
- Sometimes the name might be ironic.
- Sometimes I might be trying for historical accuracy, if it's supposed to be a very old vampire or something.
- Alien names are usually keymashes that I fix in order to make them pronounceable. Hyphens and apostrophes may or may not be included. Honestly I find aliens way easier to name than most other creatures for this reason; I don't need to consult any name lists or go by the few names I can think of off the top of my head. I can just make it up on the spot!
Notably, my game is also in Norwegian, so of course I tend to avoid English names. They just don't feel right.
Honestly I don't really have a particular naming style, I just go for whatever seems right for the sim in question.
At some point I honestly want to try doing the icelandic naming convention for a legacy, in which the baby's last name is the parent's first name. The game allows us to pick the child's first AND last name now, so why not?
