I had a similar problem. I build a big giant pine tree on that lot & had a hard time finding Emit. One I found him & did the tasks with him, I shrunk the giant tree by many levels so that it will be easier to find him next time.
I was wondering if the sims team had considered players editing or replacing lots. I only made minor adjustments like adding stuff for toddlers. It's good to know it works.

Once you met a person you can click on their picture in the panel with sims you know and let the camera zoom to him. Obviously you have to meet him first but it is very helpful to find him for the next tasks that involve him.
