When I start a game I go straight to manage households right after I have my sim established. There I age up baby girl with the Delgato Household. Sorry I can never remember her name. I start pairing couples up. Akira and Diego are a few of the ones I hook up with other Sims. I don't want the Dennis Kim effect to happen so the only thing I can think of to eliminate that is by pairing off many sims in the beginning and create townies to avoid them from spawning. Usually, I pair Ms Faust and Diego up and use genetics to give them at least one kid. I randomly hook Akira up with someone and give them a few kids.
