Wasn't it said prior to launch that death would be a lot harder to achieve for our sims? Like the percentages were lowered because death was more common in the past?
Yeah, I saw some tweets about just before or right around release where they talked about a lot of major life events being designed in a way so that the player had more control over them. Some people were concerned, for instance, that the emotional deaths would be too easy and they stated that you would have warnings beforehand so you could prevent them. They also said no meteors or pretty much any other random deaths like before but I'm not clear on how on board the devs were with that since one or two mentioned they hope to bring something like that back eventually because they really liked them.
Unfortunately, I think they went overboard. Having random negative things happen adds a couple of elements of gameplay that are missing and helps balance out the Disnified game they've developed.
Yeah basically this. In previous generations of the game it was more for me that there was a chance they'd die like if they were electrocuted or the stove caught on fire. It was the point where the sims almost died that got me. I guess what I'm trying to say is TS4 is very predictable a majority of the time. There isn't something unexpected or surprising that happens anymore. All of my sims are generally way too happy most of the time unless they have a trait that gears them to feel a certain emotion from time to time.
