I think it’s the other way around. EA is changing and therefore the fanbase is changing. That’s just sour for those who loved the old franchise. Also, welcome, I love your clearly fresh contribution here.

If I may repeat myself: the fact the fanbase has changed doesn’t mean it’s all new players. Of course there will be veteran players who like this kind of gameplay as well. It is different though, the whole approach is different (from open, creative and totally sandbox to more scripted and linear). It’s like a band you love that changes their musical style. Some will embrace it, some will hate it and a new crowd may be attracted by it. Same is happening here. But the people who don’t embrace it are right about one thing: something quite fundamental about this franchise, the open ended aspect of it, changed. And so the fanbase changes, that’s inevitable. The only thing that matters to EA is: will the group that embraces the change be big enough. Apparently it is. That doesn’t make it a right decision for those who don’t like the change though, nor does it mean they don’t like new and different in general. They just don’t like the way new and different was handled. In this particular case.

I wish people could just appreciate that that disappointed group wants to speak their mind about this too. It’s never about not granting others the fact they love the pack or denying them that right, it’s strictly about expressing their own worries and disappointment. I’d say Feedback is the place for that.
