Will this PC work for Sims 4?

I have about 4 expansion packs, 2 game packs, 3 stuff packs, and I plan to get more. I also will only be using a PC for playing Sims, so I'll have space for all of them.

Everything looks fine except for the memory---8 GB is not enough. I'm running 12 GB right now, and even that is cutting it close

But yeah, 8 GB is not going to be good enough if you want it to look good and run well.

On my laptop, with TS4 running and everything on Ultra, including high-res textures, I sit around 4.5 to 5 GB’s of RAM allocated. And my laptop GPU also has 4 GB of VRAM, same as the PC in question, so there’s no variance there.

8 GB is fine if TS4 is your only concern and your budget is tight. It’s certainly not ideal for future proofing or multi-tasking, but it’s certainly viable.
  • If you want to get more performance from limited amount of ram, overclock it.

there is big performance difference between ram running on 2133mhz vs 3200mhz. usually 10 fps differences.
  • Try to keep non essential tasks that may be running in the background to an minimum. it may give an little boost depending how much resources it uses.

I'm getting by on 4, it appears. As I mentioned though, it is a bit on the slow side and I can only set the game graphics at medium. If I go up to high, the game almost stalls altogether.

8GB of RAM is fine for this game, the game should be fine on that PC only thing I'm not sure about is that graphics card, it may be a bit old.

I would suggest look up benchmarks on youtube for AMD Radeon RX 570 and you can see what type of games can run on this graphics card.

I should also clarify that opening my game, travelling in the game, and most of all saving my games...... really does take forever. I have to leave the computer and come back when saving. I had been largely blaming Australian internet speeds for this, but now that I've actually looked up what my computer is..... well, yeah.

It is an combination of things but saving an game does not rely on internet speed or even access until the system needs to access the internet. You might get better results by upgrading the necessary specs that are hindering your system performance.

Last night I actually researched and bought a stick of RAM (4 GB to add to my existing 4 GB). This was my only current option with the machine I have. Now I just have to wait for it to arrive in the slooooow postal system we have in this crazy COVID era.

Thanks for your info/comments. Are there any other simple things I could do that you would suggest? Things that I can just read a little bit about and then do myself, like I'm doing with the RAM? I've done very simple things in the past like putting in new graphics cards and things, so the inside of the tower isn't totally foreign to me, but I still know very little!

I lost my job in the pandemic, so money is very tight, hence I need to do things on the cheap for now. :)

Hi, low end Simmer here. Just looking to soothe my OCD haha. Do you guys enjoy playing the game on Low or Low Med settings? Is the look and "charm" of the game a big deal for you?

I tried low-medium and found odd things happened, particularly during a build. I'd put in a tree and it would kind of turn into a 2D object (not sure how else to describe it). So I had to go back to medium.

I can't say I "enjoy" it, but it does the job. I'd really like to be able to use high quality graphics though.

Investing in a GPU would create wonders. You can get a GTX 1050 for quite cheap these days and that is more than enough to run everything on high for sims 4.
