I had one of my sims die of laughter after he had just finished celebrating Winterfest with his husband and kids. He had a bunch of happy moodlets because of it and I think his alien toddler must have told him a joke. I tried calming him down in the mirror, but it was too late and he ended up dying in the bathroom.
Now, I disable emotional deaths with MCCC. I appreciate the fact that they're there for people who want them, but I hate how easy they are to achieve, especially the playful one. If you take good care of your sims and they have nice houses, they're just one joke or bubble bath away from dying. I don't think they should get rid of them as there are people who still like them, but I wish sims didn't constantly have a bunch of happy moodlets that make it easier to become hysterical.
Thing is many of my Sims are well-to-do, living the high life as you suggest, yet it took years (I've played this game since release) for me to experience an emotional death, as I explained in an earlier post on this thread. What I think EA should look into (if they have a mind to tweak it at all) is to NOT take it away, but possibly to do something about that stacking system where a nicely decorated room can blow away the black cloud of sadness all by itself, or other positive atmospheres. I think the idea was a good one, on the whole, but something went awry when the positive emotions stack up the way they do and lead to a death. All people who get happy, don't just continue to have that mood escalate at an alarming rate. Sometimes a good laugh is enough to diffuse it. Sadly, the system is flawed. I'm one who rails against the tameness of this game, starting with Sims3. So, it took a preposterous set of events for me to finally turn off emotional deaths in my game, until such time the game ceases to target my most favorite Sims.
