Would a giant lot be possible

Just wondering how much creativity could go into a giant lot?,
I downloaded “my little neighborhood” by littlemssam, it’s so much fun when you download a good lot from the gallery,
I feel that with mods a large lot would assist players in making a tiny neighborhood without loading screens.

  • A lot only functions as it's lot type so not much help there if you wish to create a neighbourhood inside it.

Even if you could, there is no way to separate spaces. I made a roadside motor hotel lot once, with blocks of rooms with bathroom and mini-fridge, microwave, coffeemaker... and everyone just goes everywhere. Families won't stay together in one unit, people just barge in on one another.

    It was madness.

Similarly if you make an apartment complex, you can only have one household in it, and they will spread out and decide to eat, bathe, watch TV, in all the other apartments.

If you tried to make separate houses for a neighborhood, if it was a residential lot, you could only have one household live there and they would live in all the homes.

If it were a commercial lot, nobody could live there.

Wish I knew of some solution.

You could play a roadside motel by using the room mate feature. Also, you can hoard sims to some extent by using the lock door feature. But they do share bills and mailboxes. You can definitely live on commercial lots, even if you don't own them, but you still need your own lot for bills and taxes purposes. If you have a freelance job you only need to visit your lot to check the mailbox for packages.
  • My greatest concern would probably be lagging and loading time. I built a 3 stories palace and the loading takes "years" so I can't really play it. I'd run into the same problem if building numerous community services on one huge lot, I assume.

Re sims running all about and family not using the hotel suite intended for them, on some community lots where I have a hotel, I simply don't have a door to their unit but teleport the family in there. That stops them from wander off, and other sims will not wander in. Btw, I use the Shift+teleport in regular game play too, not sure if it is a mod allowing it, or if it is in the game, though.

It probably requires translating the TS 2 apartment coding into TS 4 coding. No idea if it would work though.

Here are some things I’ve done to give more of a community feel.

I’ve had individual townhouses or apartments on one lot with several families living there. Of course, in game they are one household, but I can create a community type environment. For example, right now I have an apartment for Spellcaster students. I just designate which beds are for which sims and use the door lock function to keep everyone else out of the various apartments. They have a community area to meet, play games and watch movies together. I’m currently setting up a neighborhood in Granite Falls this way, with several cabins on one large lot. It works okay for my needs.

I have a community center in my game that has some retail, a bar and a coffee shop. The lot is designated retail, so the shops automatically spawn attendants. Unfortunately, the coffee shop is self serve. You can hire a bartender for the bar, though. It gets surprisingly busy.

I use LittleMsSams Live In Business mod to allow sims to live on “commercial” lots. Currently I have a live in bar and a live in cafe. The mod creates a new lot type for those lots, and you can open and close when you want. I just use the door lock to keep patrons out of the private residence. Depending on the packs you have, the mod also allows live in Clubs, Daycares, Gyms, Pet Daycares and Vet Clinics. For live in retail, I’ve built apartments over the store and set the sim I’m playing to “live” on a vacant lot next door. Their needs are all met at the store, so, I just play them there. Downside is that they always go back to the lot when you send them home from anywhere, so that adds a step.

You can use the travel to interaction instead of go home. I try to put interesting spaces above community venue type lots, mainly apartments that sims can use when they are in the neighbourhood, but sometimes it's small office space type of place where they can work or skill up away from home.
  • I've built a two-family home and had a non-playable roommate come and live in the upstairs unit. With door locks set appropriately, it worked pretty well. The usual roommate behaviors still happened-- this roommate was a partier, so there would be Roommate's Party upstairs all the time XD At least she paid rent
