Would you be ok with a price increase in Expansion Packs for more content?

Expansion Packs have been sold at the same price for the past 24 years. However, with inflation and the rising cost of game development, the value of that price has changed significantly over time. Recent Sims 4 Expansion Packs have (rightfully so, imo) been criticized for offering less content while maintaining the usual price, leading some to perceive this as a form of "shrinkflation".

In reality, when adjusted for inflation and the evolving cost of production, the amount of content in today's EPs aligns more closely with what a €40 product CAN offer in 2025, rather than how much content was able to be developed with a similar budget for previous Sims games.

Would you be open to paying more for Expansion Packs with richer content, or do you prefer keeping the symbolic €40 price tag, even if it means maintaining the current content levels?

  • No. I would be willing to pay 15$ for EP's in their current state.

  • Prices have been quite constant for a lot of years, but they more of less doubled in my part of the world since the war in Ukraine started, so I am glad that at least the cost of the EPs remained constant. There wasn't much difference between basegame of TS4 and last EP for TS3, yet basegme TS4 was barebones. I don't think it's a question of inflation, but maybe a case of maximizing profits by cutting costs. And there are also the kits, that for a limited number of objects bring in more revenue. If you view them as part of an EP, then there isn't much a price increase would realistically add to an EP.

I agree with commodorelezmo. I think ea would just increase the price all over after a very short time, or decrease the volume of content the packs have. Not to mention all the packs we got so far, weddings for instance, to this day they are bugged.  if they increased the price I would be ok with it as long as it adds gameplay but also they would have to be somewhat bug free.

If the expansion genuinely had richer gameplay content and didn't reuse gameplay systems and animations with every expansion release then I'd say yes! However that being said I've lost alot of trust in the current overlords of this franchise and feel even if they did this for one or two new expansions at the increaed price it wouldn't take long before we started getting the same quantity and quality we currently get but at the new higher price point.
