Why I quit and haven't been back...

The Reaper Rewards event was really terrible for some of us.  It didn't work for a lot of people and especially console players had a hard time with it.  On top of that the Sims team members went zero communication, letting us stress out daily eventually coming back at the very end of the event to say with no explanation that those of us with failed events would not be getting the items or even an extension.  My limit had been reached... if they did not offer us a chance at the items (a chance that other players got and that we were trying to get DAILY... it wasn't as though we weren't putting in the effort) then I wasn't going to keep playing a game that treated some of the players like trash.  Well... they never did fix it, so I was sad about it but I uninstalled the game.  Since then there have been other live events and I will never be able to go back and get those items either so I don't really see a way to fix it and start playing again.  I put over a thousand dollars into this game and bought every pack that came out and now I regret it.  I would have kept buying them forever if the Sims had done the bare minimum of making sure the people with glitched events got the items or even a time extension.  I would have just thrown money at you as long as you released stuff.

The reason I left this post after so long?  One, I am still a little salty about it.  I was very loyal and they gave zero f***s about making sure we had the same event opportunities.  They wouldn't even communicate about it.  Two, I probably wasn't the only one that the failed event and subsequent dismissal alienated into quitting and maybe some future team member will wonder and think that it was just that we don't like live events (which many of us don't).  No, it's that a lot of us felt absolutely cheated by being denied an event and the rewards right when we bought a bunch of expensive expansions and kits.  Three, I am autistic and a long time ago someone told me that when you break up with people you should at least leave them a letter. 😛

I and at least 15,000 others are as frustrated with these limited-time FOMO events as you are.

If you can mod and you wish to return to the game, I can solve this hurdle for you and anyone else reading this. My name is the same everywhere, except three places where there's two additional words following my name. Find me Elsweyr. Cheers.

I am on Playstation so mods were not available, but I truly appreciate the offer (and maybe some others can take you up on it).  I wouldn't even have minded if it was a situation where I missed this time but the events always repeated (Fallout 76 is very successful with this and makes extra money off of selling some missed items), but some events never repeat with this game.  They trained us to want to not miss out on anything and then didn't fix it when it was their fault we missed out.

Oh, I know. I was present during the Happy At Home fiasco. I lost my rewards before they finally "fixed" it, after those three months of pretty much telling us that the event was over and tough luck.

Here's something you might not know, even if you did complete every event and unlock every item, you can still lose almost all of it on console because the only event rewards that are truly "account-bound" are from Happy At Home. Everything else is "server-bound". If we lose our accountDataDB.package and cannot reconnect to EAxis' servers, or they somehow muck up the server data on their end, we all lose everything.

The worst part of all of this is that unlocking these items for everyone is extremely easy and requires no shenanigans.

They could just rerun these events or turn them into Scenarios or in-game quests or "buy the item from a vendor". There are many options available to EAxis, but they've chosen the anti-consumer FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) option. They've convinced themselves that giving us a few weeks grace at the end of every event addresses all of the problems, when it doesn't really address anything whatsoever.

  • They literally thing that add a multiplayer feature would be a good idea? This game is dead

In my opinion, you didn't really miss anything of value - if the give away items had value, EA would not have given them away, they would have found a way to monetize them.  Just know, they aren't stopping.  Their latest sucky event is now FORCED on everyone.  You can't opt out - which I've been demanding since they came up with this stupid idea - you can't shut down the 'event UI', and even if you have Wants turned off - your sims will be FORCED to have the event wants.  Like you, I am considering stopping playing because EA is just a greedy corporation that doesn't care about the RGUs (Revenue Generating Units) that play their game - we're not even a number to them.

Might be best do do what I'm doing, identifying other Life Simulation games that are a) Better than any version of The Sims...ever; and b) willing to accept feedback and critiques from fans, rather than ignore them.

I've actually... done things to the Event UI in Live Mode, but again, only folks who can mod can benefit from it.

It shouldn't be terribly difficult to get rid of the Wants, but... I also revived the "Dismiss" feature on the "Pin" button, so I just (x) off any wants I don't want.

These are (2) screenshots from my "SGFX Patch" for UI Cheats Extension. I've also done these as "standalone" mods and I can patch just about any UI mod. I don't actually use UI Cheats Extension. I made the patches for the simmers who do:

I could technically also remove the "Event Quest Button".
