Writing Songs. Am I doing it wrong? It seems to be taking forever.

I swear my Sim has spent hours and hours on the guitar, writing "A Mournful Lament" which was the first random title to come up when she just got enough skill to begin writing her own music.
I seem to have about six or seven "Mournful Lament" sheet music items in her inventory.
I also seem to remember having no luck with this last time I had a musician Sim. I would like to have a crack at the aspiration.

So, what am I doing wrong? Is it supposed to take about four or five times as long as it takes my author Sim to write a book? I'm talking several sessions of hours long here. It doesn't seem to matter if I click the guitar or the music.
Please help.

    If they nerfed it too much there would be a big outcry. People are use to it. I wouldn't mind it being nerfed some though. My sims if green can turn out a book a day. That does seem excessive.

    Yeah they take forever. There's a mod that reduces song writing time to a length that doesn't seem like forever :) I don't think I could play without it, it still takes a while so they have to put in effort, but more like a few hours rather than an entire life span!

    Really? I didn't know that you could do this. I've always just made him push through and finish it in one go because I thought that he'd lose everything otherwise.
