Zodiac signs

I just realized that with seasons, we can have zodiac signs and traits assigned related to when a Sim is born. This would relate to Sims born in game. Rather than 12 signs, I'm using 8:

1st half of spring -- Penguin, angelic for toddlers
2nd half of spring - Llama, charmer for toddlers
1st half of summer - Dog, clingy for toddlers
2nd half of summer - Womrat, fussy for toddlers
1st half of fall -- Cat, independent for toddlers
2nd half of fall -- Raccoon, inquisitive for toddlers
1st half of winter -- Freezer Bunny, silly for toddlers
2nd half of winter - Bear, wild for toddlers.
  • This is a really cute idea i do wish they will add zodiac signs in at some point

    Seasons adds Zodiac signs??

No. I'm using Seasons to add my own zodiac signs.
  • I like that you made your own zodiac signs and assigned each of them their own toddler trait. I'm not sure if I want that in my game, but I think it's a clever idea.
  • I've been using traditional signs in my game for RP. Before Seasons, I was playing a long game with "seasons" in mind but the duration doesn't quite work out now. I played a custom "Epic" game with six day seasons but that's kind of gone out the window because "omg holidays :D " but also "omg no seasonal slider D: "

So that's all kinda gone out the window and I have so much math to do but here's what I do.

All of the sims I make or are born into my families end up with two mostly positive traits and one negative one with careful consideration for their bonus trait. If they're a young adult or older when I make them, I'll also give them one or two additional reward traits and a couple character value traits from Parenthood. Their signs mostly show up in what activities they like, what careers or clubs they'd gravitate towards, how they look, what they decorate their living spaces with, that kinda thing. After a good while, I'll age them up according to when their birthday should be.

As an example, Scorpio could be a Genius (because they get Focused easy), Self-Assured and Jealous, with the Alluring bonus trait. They could be a Detective or Scientist and like yoga, music and reading, and gravitate towards the colors red and violet. Their birthday would be in the last third of autumn. I usually base toddler traits more on what their home life is like but they could be Inquisitive, Independent or Clingy.

There's more to them than just their zodiac sign but it does mean that I use a wider variety of traits and trait combinations when I'm handing them out. It also means I kind of avoid the death waves when birthdays are spread so far out so all the elders don't die on the exact same day. x_x

  • @peragogo, I hear you about math. I like going with 2 positive and 1 negative trait myself, except I'm not always good about assigning the negative.

Going with 12 zodiac signs is tricky because you're never going to get them evenly divided, but you could throw in a few "cusp" days where you could draw from either sign for your traits and other characteristics.

Back when I was playing TS3, I assigned each trait to a zodiac sign and tried to use those when the Sim aged up. But it was always unsatisfactory, because the zodiac signs had no relation to the time of year.

Your Scorpio example looks interesting. Thanks for letting us know about your system!

  • I wouldn't mind seeing more option for Sims' personalities like atraction system from TS2 or favourites from TS3. However, zodiac signs were always useless and meaningless for me in every iteration (which is pretty realistic, when I think about it). But that being said, I also like your idea :) I like that you came up with signs unique to the Sims world and conected them with toddlers' traits. I feel like they are less important, compared to the whole Sim's life, so you could easily direct your Sim the way you want later on. And maybe it could even change your mind and influence the story you have planned before :)
