Adult sims cannot access bed

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:PC
Which language are you playing the game in? Deutsch
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
What is your current game version number? Up to date (1.89.214.1030)
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? EP: Get to Work, Cats & Dogs, Seasons, Get Famous, Island Living, Discover University, Eco Lifestyle, Cottage Living GP: Outdoor Retreat, Vampires, Parenthood, Jungle Adventure, Realm of Magic, Dream Home Decorator, Werewolves SP: Tiny Living Stuff, Nifty Knitting Stuff, Paranormal Stuf
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Create a 4x3 room. Raise the room by one platform level. Place a half-wall on half of the lower end of the room. Activate bb.moveobjects. Place a double bed between the walls and the half-wall.
What happens when the bug occurs? When adults try to access the bed or drawer they get a routing issue. They also cannot enter the area between the bed and drawer at all. That is due to the fact that they do not take a straight path in between but a curved one (see picture 1). Children and pets do not have this issue. They can use both the drawer and bed and pass in between the spaces (see picture 2).
What do you expect to see? Adults to be able to use the bed and drawer like children, since there is no issue with the space.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Not now. I've removed them.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? No

Comment: I unfortunately cannot attach any saves due to not having any access to a Google Drive or similar services.

Edit By Crinrict: Filled out form by answers given, removed tag from title as BG doesn't need a tag.

  • @WingedSnek     Hello!  I'm pretty sure the issue is with the overhead light. For a short wall room with a raised floor, the light you used hangs too low for adult sims to stand or walk under.

If you use a light with a smaller profile, your adults will be able to walk under it.

Your other options might be to use wall lights instead, to raise the wall height to medium or lower the floor.  I hope this helps!

I tested the arrangement you described and showed in your pics.  MOO was on but I didn't need it to place the bed.  But I think I figured out the problem.  It's the hanging light.  With short walls and that light fixture, teen and above sims don't have enough headroom to go under the light.  That's why the sim curved around in your 1st pic.  So, to fix it, change the light fixture to one that is closer to the ceiling or change the wall height to a taller height.

    Hope this helps.

  • I don't know how to reply to two people at once, but both of you are absolutely right! After removing the headlight the bed and drawer could be accessed without any issue. Thank you so much for your help! I might not have found out otherwise, because I always use the bird view when building and, thus, don't really see the distance between the floor and the lamps. Makes me wonder whether there should be any warnings by the game like (I believe) in Sims 3 where a pop up saying „Walls are too short for this item“ could show up. Admittedly, this is a very specific case, because there was no space to walk around the headlight, but I suspect that other people might have issues with that too without noticing. After all my sim also had a speech bubble, which indicated that the bed was the object blocking the way and not the lamp, which technically is true.

@WingedSnek    I'm glad you were able to figure that out!  It looks like @CGrant56 and I were replying to your post at the same time so your response is appropriate. :-)  I don't know if it would be possible to offer a warning about the lights since it would need to account for walkable space for teens and adults, which would include items in the space that create potential routing failure.  This would need to account for using MOO to place items which can also cause routing failures.  In your particular case, there was the added issue of a raised floor, not just the items placed that prevented sims from walking around the area of the light.  When I lowered the floor, the adults were able to walk under the light that you used.  Whatever the case, routing issues caused by overhead lighting has been a problem for a while.  There are some lights that cause a routing failure even when the floor isn't raised. So perhaps the dev team could investigate ways of preventing that or offering a warning when lights may be too low for teen / adult sims to walk under.
