all sims gone

Since the July 26th 2022 update, mods broke my game, but it was still largely playable. I went and deleted all the UI and script mods from my mods folder, then reloaded. All sims, from every world, every lot, all NPCs, are now all gone. All of them. I removed all my mods and CC, no dice - still gone. I repair the game on origin, they're still all gone. The 'Resume' button just shows a white silhoutte, with no message about my sim winning free earbuds or something. I know the game is still registering things in other folders because it will list any mods or CC I put in the folders at startup, it shows some saves if I put them in the saves folder, etc. It shows no error code or message. It just loads the game like normal, but all sims are gone. ALL OF THEM.

I am preparing to reinstall the game overnight, but I will have no clue what to do once it's re-installed and if it still doesn't work. This update is so frustrating. Has anyone else had this issue? I've encountered it before, but it was due to out of date mods because of a similar update. I went into gameplay options and unchecked mods and cc, so at base vanilla it's still faulty. Does anyone have any idea how to solve this? I have 2800 hours in this game ☹️

Get in the habit of manually backing up your saves folder and Tray folder, put them in a special folder you keep on your desktop or whatever. That way you can always replace saves and houses/households etc if something bad happens to your installation and Documents folders.

Are you using cloud storage of any type or OneDrive? OneDrive and cloud storage is really bad for games especially when things go wrong, best to disable all those things.

@mabr925  Please check OneDrive (Windows) or iCloud (macOS) for any stray Sims 4 content.  If you find your saves or anything else you're missing, move the files back to the local Sims 4 folder, as in, the one stored on your computer.

If you're not sure what you're looking at, feel free to post a screenshot.

Otherwise, try searching your computer for your saves.  In Windows, open a File Explorer window and click This PC in the left panel, then enter Slot_ in the search bar in the upper-right corner.  If this finds any saves, click on one and click "Open file location" in the menu, and you'll jump to wherever the file is.  Hopefully your other missing files are there too.  Here again, move the files back to Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4, and the game should read them.
