Alpha CC for beginners?

I have just cleared out all of my Maxis Match CC to see if I like Alpha CC in game. I am having trouble finding the right things and creators to make my sims look super realistic, I have looked through this forum with a search but I am not really into much of the Alpha CC that doesn't look that realistic. I was just wondering what are the basics to get a sim looking realistic? I have downloaded a skin tone (Adamas by madmono) but it doesn't look like the pictures of sims you see on TSR - am I missing something?

Also it would be really helpful if someone could link some great Alpha creators (preferably not on TSR, but I don't mind!), I think I came across an Alpha CC thread a while back but I can't find it so if anyone knows where it is please tell me! Any help appreciated, thank you!! :) :)
