Alpha CC Hair Transparency Issue-- Works in CAS but not in-game

I know this issue has been brought up a lot, but I couldn't seem to find a direct answer for problems relating to gameplay rather than when making a new mesh.

When I make a sim in CAS, Alpha hair and eyelash transparency looks the way it is supposed to. The problem starts when I load the game and start playing with the sim. Suddenly, the hair and eyelashes are completely blocky and opaque, especially at the ends where it shows most.

I've tested this issue with many different meshes by many different creators and it's all the same which leads me to believe the individual CC files are not corrupted, but I'm not an expert by any means so I could be wrong.

I do have quite a few script mods installed, could this be the problem?

I've fully updated my game and tier the repair function as well with no luck. How do I fix this?

I've also attached how one of my sims looks in CAS versus playing in the game to show what I mean.

  • @ToxicViolets  Please post a screenshot if your in-game graphics settings.  You can put the game into windowed mode, hit Windows key-shift-S, and drag your cursor over the section of screen you want to capture.

    Here's my graphics settings.

  • I am also just seeing that I accidentally posted this in PC instead of Mac. I'm not sure if that is relevant but I am using a MacBook Pro OS 11.6

@ToxicViolets  It almost certainly matters that you're playing on a Mac.  Please also list your computer's full specs: everything under About This Mac except for the serial number.

You could try playing with the graphics settings a bit to see if you get different results, for example using the default ultra profile (where it says Custom in your screenshot) or disabling post processing.  I can't see whether you have laptop mode enabled—you'd need to scroll down a bit—but if so, definitely disable it first.  It's supposed to be for low-end machines, and when it's enabled, the game cuts a lot of corners with rendering.

If the above doesn't help, you may be better off asking on a dedicated creators' forum, for example the one at Sims4Studio.  I'm not aware of any issues with alpha cc and macOS, and the other Mac person I asked isn't either, but cc creators would have a better idea.

I've moved this thread to the general discussion section since it's not a PC tech issue and probably not a problem with your Mac itself.

@puzzlezaddict Ah okay, I honestly know nothing about computers so apologies! Here should be a screenshot of all of my specs.

@ToxicViolets  That's not the info I was asking for; I wanted the initial pop-up when you click About This Mac.  But the model number in your screenshot gives me a good enough idea.

I still think it would be useful to try the default ultra graphics profile both with and without post-processing; make sure laptop mode is disabled as well.  And try both fullscreen and windowed modes.  You'll need to quit and restart the game for the changes to take effect, other than fulllscreen/windowed.

  • I’m on a pc, but I also get this issue and it’s so annoying because I really want to play with alpha cc as I don’t really like maxis hair as much.

  • I don't know if you still have this problem but, it's an easy fix, just go into your graphics settings and uncheck laptop mode.
