completely broken sims 4 game - sims invisible, unable to interact with objects

Question

I haven’t played since January, so I updated my game, reloaded all my mods and my entire game is broken. I’ve been removing cc into a seperate folder for hours now and all of my recently downloaded cc (within a month) has been put into that folder, I haven’t downloaded more since January. My sims are broken and invisible, I’m unable to interact with any objects and can only move the camera around. I also can’t do anything in build mode and the exit and confirm buttons are blank until i hover over them. I’ve searched but I can’t find any solutions despite googling vaguely or specifically. Nothing has worked, and when I enter a household, I get a screen with a dark overlay and red borders with nothing on it that only goes away after i press esc. I also downloaded a sims 4 mod manager but I don’t know if that has anything to do with my game breaking.

@polishomori No mod manager can help you solve what's broken, and some mod managers do things like rename mods, causing you more problems.

Make this your next step:
Drag the entire Mods folder to the desktop, delete the file called localthumbcache, and open the game to test. This will also make a new Mods folder where you'll put things in when they're updated or being tested.

Your next step, if that works, is to use the Broken/Updated Mods list:

For any mods/CC on that list that are listed as newly broken or previously broken, delete them from the Mods folder on your desktop. 
Next, use the list of core/injector etc. mods. Make sure that any of those you use are the current version. I'd suggest just deleting the old ones from your new Mods folder and downloading new copies for the new Mods folder.
Next, use the Updated lists. For every mod in there that you use, delete the old one from the desktop folder and download the new one. Check the installation instructions. A lot of modders have changed those recently.
Next, use the Cleared list. For this category, you can move the old mods to the new folder.

This is a good time to test your game again, because after that you'll be adding batches of old mods/CC in to check them.
