Continuous loading for specific game file

Hello,

I recently got a new computer and the first thing I did was download the Sims 4! It worked fine for the first few days, but recently I've been having a problem with one household. It was a save file that already had two custom households I was playing in Oasis Springs. When I made the next one, it worked fine for the gaming session. I made sure to have it properly because I've had issues in the past, but the next time I log on to play the game will not open in that household. The game will move to the loading screen, and then load forever. I left my computer open and awake to see if it'd ever load, but after 8 hours it was still loading.

I do use mods and custom content, including CAS mods, Build Mode mods, and Script/Behavior/Trait mods. I thought the problem might've had something to do with one of them, and at first, tried to go through the files one by one, but couldn't find anything definitive. Eventually, I just deleted all my mods, but the game still wouldn't load! This is only an issue that happens to this specific household. I can make new games, and play the other households in the file, but it will not load for this house.

I went as far as deleting the Sims 4 as an app from my computer completely, then re-adding the household from the gallery. I thought at first that it would work because it ran fine for about 10 minutes. Then, when trying to bring them from one location to the next, the game got stuck on the loading screen again. I'll add that the problem first started when i went to CAS to change an outfit, and when I clicked done to bring it back to the game, it got stuck. Thanks!

For cooking mods you want to *not* delete them. See if you can find the rest of what that mod belongs to (it probably has other parts) and put them all back in. Deleting parts or all of a cooking mod without having first deleted food and plates from it can stop loading.

Alternatively, test with no mods and see if you can load an earlier version of the save.

  • Hi @o32eba059otc - A couple of things. If you had any recipe or cookbook mods, reinstall those but in the most recent updated versions and see if you can get back into that household. If not, try using Load from the main menu to access an earlier version of that save.

@luthienrising Hello, the only mod like that I found in my mods folder was a better pie menu for cooking. I deleted it and tried to open the game, but unfortunately nothing changed, I also tried to open the file from the load menu but had the same result.

@luthienrisingI redownloaded the mod as a whole and tried to load the game again, but now it wouldn't load that household. It still lets me play other households in the same world files. I cleared my mod folder and started up the game, and the same thing happened.

edit: I was being impatient! the game file finally loaded, but just took a longer amount of time than usual. I'm hoping the problem is fixed!

Oh good! I'd suggest deleting any food and plates in the household. That will help clear up issues from the cooking mod. If you *do* ever want to delete cooking/recipe mods, many need you to do that first.

@luthienrising Hello, I hope it's alright that I'm using this same thread. I now notice that in the game, all other loading screens eventually load, but when someone asks one of my sims to hang out at a separate lot, the loading screen to take me there does the endless loading thing. I went ahead and got rid of all the plates, then deleted the mod to avoid any other problems, and then I used the link to help me load to a previous version of the game, to which everything works great except for the hangout/date thing. I also notice this happens when both of the household members are traveling somewhere together. Any advice?

That sounds like a different issue, then, but at least you can get that far now. Did you put all your mods back? If not, try removing everything except the updated cooking mods (and deleting localthumbcache).
