The results for renovations can be incredibly unpredictable, especially with larger households. It is almost impossible to get a good review from a 5-8 sim household because their likes and dislikes don't align. The gig's performance is not really judged based on the characteristics you see, but the whole household pool of opinions... I have pretty much completely stopped playing this career despite loving it because of how many times the game has just absolutely rained hate on my renovations I did to a T following the criteria and the other household opinions and built for over a hour...
I hate to say this but the Dream Home Decorator career is bordering on unplayable with how unsatisfying it tends to be. Even if you manage to find out the household interests perfectly, and you have been tasked by Bob and Eliza to renovate a bedroom while avoiding green and concentrating on rocker science and skating, they will cry of joy after you don't even touch the bedrooms, demolish their whole kitchen, pile a rocket ship and five skis on the yard and take a smelly poop in their toilet. The game has no idea what "bedroom renovation" or "nursery" or "game room is", any room-specific items are not needed and the requests you get may have absolutely nothing to do with the room. Kitchen for cooking haters and you dislike yellow? Gardening lavatory with a dash of programming? Mixing drinks-themed child's room but remember we hate island style? Coming right up, sir!
