Event & game controls not showing up

I'm not sure what's going on, but ever since the update, my game has not been working. I took out my mods to see if that was the problem, but it didn't help. But the event tab in the top left corner is not showing up at all for me, no matter how many times I reload/force quit/repair. Also, when I travel to any place or switch households, all the game controls are gone, and it won't let me click on anything. I just have to leave the game altogether.

    @morganmacs  Try dragging your The Sims 4 folder (the one you put mods in) to your desktop, then open the game and start a new save to force it to create a fresh folder. If the controls work in that new save on a fresh folder, you can start copying back the contents of your saves and tray folders to recover saves and gallery.
