Gallery not recognizing owned items

I just finished a build & uploaded to my library with no issue, but when I attempted to upload it to the gallery, could not.  I repeatedly closed and reopened game, as well as rebooting.  When I looked at my library, I noticed that this build as well as every other build (including those I had previously shared to the gallery) is now marked with a triple plumbob green ribbon, which when hovered over says "This gallery item was created using purchased, free or promotional content you do not own."  To which I say, impossible and untrue.  I own it ALL.  I preorder specifically to get free promo items.  I literally own all it is possible to own, and it cost me a fortune.  So why can I now suddenly not share to the gallery?

  • @HelviaCastle Hi! That sounds very frustrating. I was wondering a few things, if I could please clarify &/or see if you tried...

    • Can you share a screenshot of the error pop-up, plus you mentioned a triple-plumbob? I cannot see anything like that in my game, so it would be helpful to see what you're seeing. Thanks
    • Do you have, Mods or CC in your game? If you do you can try removing them and the cache file mentioned in the spoiler tag and see if the issue is still present...
      Spoiler
Exit the game. Move the Mods folder from your "The Sims 4" folder [Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4] to your desktop (save it for reference) and delete the localthumbcache.package file in your “The Sims 4” folder. Then check in a new game save to see if this issue is still occurring. You can then test without saving – or in a new vanilla game save – in order to identify which CC/Mods are causing the issue. Then remove or add updated version(s) of the Mod/CC causing the issue.
    • If you don't have Mods or CC, or that turns out not to be the issue, did you try a game repair? (Directions in spoiler tag):
      Spoiler
      • Open Origin, click ‘Game Library’ then right-click Sims 4 > Repair Game
      • Let it run until it has completed all repairs. It will do the base game first, then run through each of your DLCs (Expansion Packs, Game Packs, Stuff Packs and Kits).

I had this same issue on Xbox today. Households in the gallery I created are marked with the 3 plumbobs as well.

  • Hi Sheri!  Thanks for replying.  There was no pop up involved, and although I still can't upload to gallery, the green ribbon is no longer showing up.  Now the gallery just spins endlessly, as if it's in the process of uploading but never does (I've let it go for up to 40 minutes trying to see if it would eventually upload).  I wind up having to x out of the game entirely, and it's the same thing all over again once I restart to try again.  There are no mods involved, and I have tried to repair game, to no avail.  I do want to include a better description of the green ribbon though, in case anyone else gets it in their game.  It shows when you click on your library.  When all the builds are listed in your library, there will be what looks like a green ribbon type bookmark at the top corner of the picture build which has a triple plumbob logo on it.  You can't click it, and it doesn't produce any pop up, but when hovered over, it gives the message that build uses unowned content.  This is especially odd because the game does allow me to build with all the items my library is claiming are unowned, and I am able to use them in game play.  So it seems as if it is only the library/gallery portion of the games not recognizing my owned content.  So odd.

@itsumi_marie Thank you for capturing the triple plumbob!  By the time I thought to grab a screenshot, it had stopped appearing (even though my gallery is still broken).

@itsumi_marie @HelviaCastle I'm not ignoring you... I'm just rather stumped on this. I'm asking some friends if they've seen this, or something similar.

I was wondering... if you run the game repair, then restart the game and in a new game save you make a new house and a new household and save them to your library, do you see the plumbob image then - or any of the other restricted behavior for that/those new library items? Also, if you own all packs (I also do, so that's why I mention that, as in some builds I use a lot of them) and you go into the gallery under my name, do you get that message if you view, download, place, or save to your library any of my homes in the gallery (username SheriGR)... as a test?

  • Ok, so update.  I cleared cache, restarted & started a new game, then saved a new partial build to my library.  Interestingly, it did then allow me to upload the new game build to the gallery without issue.  So, since my old save build had uploaded to my library, I decided to try to share it to the gallery from my library within the new game.  That still didn't work.  So apparently the gallery issue pertains only to the game save I'd been playing when I downloaded the two new kits (as my gallery was still functional following the last update).  I'm happy I now have gallery functionality back, but am still hoping to find a fix for the old save, if only because I have an especially cute 99 tile Mt. Komorabi chateau trapped there.  I'm next going to try placing the chateau from my library into the new save, and see if I can place to the gallery from there.  Will lyk the results.

That worked.  I placed my library save in new game, and uploaded to gallery from there.  Now I guess I need to go back to the old save & try to rescue the sim couple who owned the chateau.  I realize this isn't a fix, just a rather cumbersome work around, but it might be helpful if there is a particular build or sims you need to untrap.

@HelviaCastle Thank you so much for trying all of that and letting us know the results! So it seems that your other game save must have become buggy somehow? Anyway, it's a huge relief to hear that you can do some workarounds to get those other homes/sims in your new game and get the 'bugs' out of them. I hope that process may be helpful to @itsumi_marie also! 🙌
