Game Crashing When Launched Vanilla
I noticed this issue about a week ago, but I’ve been putting it off because I can still launch the game as long as my mods folder is in place. However, I’m dealing with a variety of problems related to my mods folder, so I’m trying to troubleshoot that while also attempting to launch the game in vanilla mode.
Here’s what I’ve tried: I remove the mods folder, delete the lastexception and lastcrash files, and clear the cache. Then, I attempt to launch the game without any mods. It goes through The Sims loading screen and the plum blob, but then it crashes. I’ve already repaired the game through the official launcher and sought help from multiple Discord groups, but I’m still completely lost as to what’s causing this.
The confusing part is that the game launches fine when the mods folder is included, but crashes in vanilla mode. I’m not sure what to do next or what might be causing this behavior. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
gooodmornning You can delete that text file now.
- Remove .rar and .html files
- For files that are in .pyc format, delete and redownload; don't extract files from ts4script files
- Check your sliders and presets against the Broken and Previously Broken lists
- You have some files with character names like í¥ごみ in them, and these might cause you issues at some point
- delete desktop.ini
- You can't have both of these Zerbu mods, pick one: Unlimited Likes and Dislikes, Custom Preferences Mod; if you don't use any custom preferences, you don't need this second one
- Turbo's No Washing Dishes in the Bathroom is obsolete and could cause game issues - just use the newer sink-setting feature in game
- Pick which Better Nanny schedule and age range you want - you can't have more than one in
- You have multiple no-eyelashes mods. Pick one. Use the Previously Broken list to help with this.
- You have two copies of Basemental's Venue List with slightly different names. Delete both and redownload.
- There's a file with the extension "package 2". Delete that or rename it.
- You have some package files with names like 1001 and 1. Unless you actually know what those are and they came from the actual creator, delete them.
- You have a translation file for a mod you don't have.
- You have folders with .ts4script in the name that include files that shouldn't be visible. Don't extract ts4script files. Redownload those and leave the actual .ts4script file in your folder.
- You have folders named Tray and Mods. Delete those. Tray files go directly in your own Tray folder. "mods" in a folder name under "mods" causes problems.
- Not sure what a file ending .bin is doing in here, but that can't be right. Delete that mod and redownload it if you actually use it.
After you clean all this up, try starting the game again, load a new save. Then exit and text again without the mods folder.
