Your saves, Mods etc are stored in the Sims 4 folder in Documents > Electronic Arts.
Your game is installed by default in your Applications folder, or wherever you may have changed this to in Origin/EA App.
Uninstalling and reinstalling the game will not cause you to lose your saves but is also an unnecessary thing to do when the issue is Mods.
But you need to figure out what is causing the issue and ridiculously slow loading times. Move your Mods folder out of the Sims 4 folder, or rename it, and trash the localthumbcache.package file. Attempt to load the game. How long does it take to load?

@Bluebellflora oops, it opens within a matter of seconds without the mods. does that mean I have too many or broken mods? I have sims 4 mod manager, but I cant seem to navigate it well.

Yes, most probably outdated Mods. Moved your thread to the Mods forum. See this stickied thread as a starting point - https://answers.ea.com/t5/Mods-CC-Issues/INFO-How-to-Use-Mods-and-CC/m-p/13436223#M58775
