Game won't launch after adding new downloads

Just as the title says, the game won't launch if I try to add new downloads to my Mods folder. This has only been the case since the EA App switch from Origin. I have mods/downloads and the game launches just fine if they're enabled. BUT if I try to install ANY new downloads, the game won't launch (doesn't even try). I have tried with multiple, individual items; so it's not just one or two corrupted files. Same issue happens if I try to add one item or 20. I've also tried disabling mods/cc, moved the new cc to the mods folder, starting the game, enabling mods with the new cc in the mods folder and the game still won't launch. I'm convinced it has something to do with me trying to add any new content since the update.

Is there a fix??

If it helps, I'm playing on a Mac ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

There is a high probability that this behavior is related to an outdated or broken mod. Unfortunately, there is no simple answer to most of these problems. I think you need to look at your mods to find out what is going on in your game.

Since the EA app is the universal plattform for all EA games and not only for The Sims, it doesn't interfere with the game contents. The clash between your problem and your switch from origin to the EA app is probably just an unfortunate coincidence.

As always make a backup of your game data before you start tweaking your game to have a fallback option if you don't like the result.

Try the following, to see whether your game works without mods:

    1. Move all your mods and CC somewhere safe (there's no need to delete them!) such as a folder on your desktop so you can easily find them again.
    2. Make sure to delete your localthumbcache.package file.
    3. Once done, start up your game and test to see if the error still appears.

Your game will probably work flawless without mods. If that's the case you have to go through your mods and find the culprit. The 50/50 search might be a good method for this task to get a result in a reasonable time.

    Attention:

All modded content will disappear from the game if you remove it, so if sims are wearing CC it will vanish while you're testing.

Because of this it's really important that you do not save the game while testing.

That way your CC will still be there when you bring your mods back into your game.
