Game won't save

HI. I recently moved my EA folder to an external SSD via Symlink and everything was working fine for the first 2 days. Yesterday I loaded up my save and noticed that my sims were unable to change clothes - they would complete the animation but would remain in the same clothes and would even shower while dressed. Whenever I attempted to travel or save the game I would get stuck on the loading screen (no error messages though). I eventually just have to force quit as it never finishes loading. I'm really frustrated since I just bought this external SSD for the sole purpose of creating more space on my Mac and improving gameplay. Please help!!

What I've tried thus far:

- removed all mods/cc

- uninstalled sims on local drive and installed on external ssd

- deleted local cache between making changes

- changed iCloud settings so the Symlink is now on the desktop instead of iCloud documents (EA folder is still on the external). Optimize Mac storage has always been turned off.

- updated from Big Sur to Sonoma

Specs:
MacBook Air 2019

Graphics: Intel UHD Graphics 617 1536 MB

Memory: 8 GB 2133 MHz LPDDR3

macOS: 14.4.1 (23E224)

The problems you're having sound completely Mod related. Creating the symlink to store the Sims 4 folder externally has absolutely nothing to do with game performance and improving gameplay. It simply frees up space on the internal drive.

The symlinked folder is on the desktop? The game won't launch any data from a folder on the desktop.

Can you post a screenshot of your Documents folder contents. Scrub out any personal info.

Oops, I meant the shortcut is saved on my desktop. The Symlink is still saved on the external. It's currently working now - I had to create a new sims 4 folder and then slowly test out my saves to see which one was corrupted. I'm a little nervous it's going to happen again though since I don't know how it happened in the first place. All of my mods are up to date and the problem continued to happen even after I removed them.

@ewitsbrooke Could you try this please?

    1. Drag your whole Sims 4 folder from Document > Electronic Arts to your desktop. Make sure you're doing this with the folder the game sees.
    2. Launch Sims 4 and reset your Options. Start with New to test if your issue recurs.

    If that works:

    1. Exit and copy files out of your old Saves, Tray, Screenshots and Videos foldesr into the new folders.
    2. Launch Sims 4 to test.

If that works, it's time to start identifying what mods.CC are broken. These might have been updated ones, even. They certainly could be anything that doesn't have a more recent version than yours.
