What kind of super computers some of you have to have 6G! I have 600M and the game slows down considerably !!!
My operating system won't work at all if I have only 600 MB free space. My Windows 10 system actually often uses part of the hard drive space as a substitute for RAM. Also, for most Windows 10 updates (official Microsoft updates) usually require 5 to 10 GB free space. Not to even mention program updates from the Microsoft store and Steam updates. Often, in the process of updating, a program will take up double the hard drive space that it normally would, since it retains the old copy until it can verify the new one is properly downloaded, installed, and passes certain system checks. Some games take up 20 GB of hard drive space all by themselves (as does the Sims with all packs to date installed), but during update, that number jumps to 40 GB. Good reason for getting an external drive and/or enclosure if you are swapping your old drive out... Also, are you playing on Legacy edition? You do know you can check your frame rate in game with a cheat. By the way, I did this with The Sims 3 when I was playing it on my Windows 7 Lenovo laptop (not gaming spec) with integrated graphics card. It hit a whopping 11 fps. At one point, I called support regarding something, I forget what. Probably an issue with Origin. But they actually told me my poor old laptop did not have the specs to even run the game. (Probably the only reason I was able to play the game was because I had the patience to wait 60 to 90 seconds through a blank, black screen, then wait about 30 minutes for the game to load. After all, The Sims, and the Sims 2 had often taken me 30 minutes to load once I put enough lots and custom content (maybe 1 GB) in it. Perfect for eating a meal or doing chores while waiting for it to load. (Then again, I think that was on a Win XP machine or earlier.)
I suppose waiting for games to load on cassette tapes for 5 or 10 minutes when I was a teen (and PC and Mac were not the only game in town yet) might have had something to do with the patience level regarding game loading times. Piece of trivia: The first computer that was made for home use was made by Coleco.
However, these days, I have a job working around 35 hours a week (in an essential job as payroll specialist so I didn't get laid off) and as a result, a better computer.
I bought that computer as a gaming computer about 5 or 6 years ago. It has a 970 GTX nVidia graphics card (barely VR capable, though I wouldn't actually try that, because VR headsets are WAY too pricey and it probably would not run well.) By comparison, the very newest nVidia graphics cards are the RTX series, but they are so new most are over $500, and my hubby would either scream at me or kick me out the door if I spent THAT much money without asking him first (and he would say NO WAY, especially since he freaked out when I got myself a $50 wireless headset without asking him, and he tried to cancel the order but it had already shipped, and then he forbade me from buying ANY electronics (even $1) without asking him first. Plus he is always deriding the idea of "keeping up with the Joneses" as a marketing conspiracy to cheat people out of their money. Also, apologies to those modders whose Patreon I had to cancel because I have also been banned from using Patreon until my credit cards are paid off, and after that, only $5/month (I was only spending $15-20 a month before I cut it down to $5/month). (I am down to 4 credit cards, which, with the exception of 1 or 2, are projected to be completely paid off in the next 4 to 6 months.) (Inconsiderate people who think everyone else should have spanking new technology to suit THEIR needs should take stuff like this into consideration, including and especially companies that are trying to make everybody use texting or Zoom (which is useless when like us, you do not have a webcam). Fortunately, he will never read this post since he completely hates The Sims and ALL of its series.
My system RAM is about 16 GB, though I have been suspecting one of the RAM sticks isn't working right. Fortunately, my computer rarely even needs more than 12 with how I usually use it.
