How do I get my dog to stop barking at me?

My dog incessantly barks at my Sims. I pay lots of attention to him and take him on walks. But any time I try to have a Sim do literally anything else he sits there and barks until they stop what they are doing to pet him. It's driving me crazy because I can't do anything else on my property without him barking for attention and the sound is getting annoying too. His traits are smart, sleuth, and friendly. He's an adult labrador retriever. Sometimes thought bubbles appear and it's because he wants to be fed or go for a walk. But 9 times out of 10 there's no reason. He just barks until they pet him and as soon as they stop and do something else he follows them and starts barking again.

  • @megamuffin05 When he barks too much does you sim ever get the option to scold or lecture him about 'barking at nothing' or similar?

Training out misbehaviors is a thing, and I think it may be more so with certain traits.  I think for dogs the misbehaviors are things like 'barking at nothing', drinking from the toilet or puddles of pee, eating poo, etc. Cats will misbehave (and have the option to scold/lecture) by scratching furniture, jumping on the counter, etc.

Thankfully, an option is available to try and train out these behaviors and make your cat or dog a better member of the family. When your dog or cat does something that is considered a misbehavior in the game you will sometimes see the lecture or scold option in the pie menu of possible interactions for a window of time. If you jump right on it while the option to lecture them is there they should eventually learn not to do that misbehavior. When that happens you will get a notification that they have learned not to _____ (whatever the behavior is).

Keep in mind that dogs will bark/howl a bunch when in heat, but this is temporary and you can tell if that's the issue by the fact that you will see pink hearts animating around their bark/howl.

  • There isn't a specific scold option but a general one. Just to scold. I'll try doing that when he's barking and see if he learns to not bark from that. Thank you so much!!

@megamuffin05 Yes, the option that works on correcting a misbehavior is not normally there... there is a window of time to catch them in the act and lecture them about it specifically, and it takes numerous times of doing this process consistently. I had one cat that learned not to scratch the furniture eventually when I kept at it, but I never managed to stop the jumping on the counter one on that cat (though I wasn't very consistent). Good luck! 🤞🏼
