How do you add apt. rentals in your worlds without owning them?

I've been trying to figure out how to put apartment rentals around the different worlds, but I don't want to play a landlord. I simply want my Sims to be able to rent an apt. or house in any of the worlds. I'd also like it if some were occupied so my Sims can have neighbors.

I tried placing a residential rental in manage worlds, it wouldn't let me.

I had to go into build mode to set it up, but no one owns it.

I tried to move someone to be an NPC in, but they aren't landlords.

I tried turning it into a residential so the NPC could buy the property, and they did, but then they couldn't make it residential from manage worlds; I have to play them and make them buy it.

So from what I'm seeing, in order to put apartment buildings around the worlds that can be used, I have to:

1) leave my played sims and go into manage worlds

2) pick a property, go into build mode, and change the lot trait

3) place/build a rental property

4) go back into manage worlds

5) create a new household and plop them down in a property

6) use cheats to increase their funds

7) go into their phone and buy a rental property

8) set up the apartments & rental agreements

9) have the landlord add some tenants

10) rinse and repeat for every rental property I want to be available for my game

11) go back into manage worlds to make it so none of the landlords or other tenants are part of my households

12) go back to my Sim and resume playing

It just seems like a lot of steps, am I missing an easier way? Thx

  • I don’t own the pack, but from what I understand, you shouldn’t need to do steps 4-9. Once you create a residential rental, you can move sims in the same way you would move them into anywhere else, and the game will auto-generate a landlord for events.

Although, I think you may need to create a Sim to buy the building if you want to set up the additional rental rules/restrictions.

  • @k1o1q2mw0be0 Confirming that only these steps are needed, and I recommend this order if you're building your own:

    1. Back up your Saves folder
    2. Load a lot from Manage Worlds
    3. Change to Residential (not RR yet) and build your lot
    4. Change to Rental Residential and assign units
    5. Move Sims in

I recommend this order if you're placing an RR build from your Library or the Gallery

    1. Back up your Saves folder
    2. In a NEW SAVE, place the lot; this is to make sure that the build isn't one that will corrupt the lot before you put it in the save you play
    3. In your own save, load a lot from Manage Worlds
    4. Change to Residential Rental Residential and place the build
    5. Move Sims in

To change agreements, you can switch to play the game-generated property owner in Live mode and then switch back.
