My sim's stove caught on fire and then she did as well and she was put out immediately. This same sim also electrocuted herself and didn't die. She also repaired her fridge, standing in a puddle, and nothing happened. I think random deaths add to the game. Otherwise, I'm just playing every single sim until they die of old age.
