Mods caused holiday issues (even after removed)

Hello; just curious for advice, don't think I need a bug report because it's not really the game's bug, it's just my game that came from mods But not sure really what to do about it, if anything can be done.

So I have some games (save files) that I don't use mods and some I play that I do use mods, and I was playing one with several big mods like MCCC, Slice of Life, UI cheats, Realistic Reactions, and a few other others for more specific things like not taking food or kids being able to walk dogs and such. This is the only save file when I'm using so many mods. That heavily modded game file got screwed up a little, I noticed the seasons weren't changing and there were no holidays or festivals anymore. Otherwise, it was fine, but it was as if I didn't have seasons at all (I do, btw).

So I took out all the mods when the update came a couple of days ago. I updated the game & did a game repair. And cleaned the cache for Origin. When I went back into that formerly heavily modded game (no mods now), I had my weather changes back & festival notifications back from City Living, but still no holidays-- not the pre-created or the created. They're on the calendar till the day hits then they disappear off the calendar but there is no celebration.

So I tried a different game file that I never used mods with, and same thing-- no holidays. No notifications.

So I repaired the game again. After that, the games I play with no or fewer mods were fine.

I go back to the formerly heavily modded game file (still no mods installed) and again, no holidays again. Then I go back to the other save files, and holidays are gone again across the board.

Repair the game again, holidays are back on those other save files. Last I check the formerly heavily modded game, and they're gone again. I haven't checked but I'm guessing the holidays will be gone from the other save files again now that I went back into the corrupt game, and I'll probably need to do another game repair.

Hope that all made sense lol.

So I guess something is corrupted in that game file, probably from mods conflicting? Wouldn't be heartbroken to play it without the holidays if I can continue it with the mods, the holidays don't play a vital part of that story. Then I'd just finish up what I'm doing and delete it. But I'm worried it could corrupt my other save files permanently, that *would* be heartbreaking lol.  Not really sure what to do about it, would it be safe to reinstall some of my mods, like MCCC, and keep playing that one modded game? Would it be safe to keep playing it at all, or should I delete it to prevent it from corrupting my other save files?

I'm wondering if I could just save the household & the businesses they run (the buildings) and starting a new game and uploading them to see if I can keep playing with some of my mods reinstalled, just try using mods & cheats to get back up to where things were. I know I'd have to start the businesses from scratch again & things would be different but I'm just having fun with this crazy storyline and I want to see it through.

I don't understand how mods & games work basically, I guess I'm asking, what would you do? Or be worried about?

IDK sorry I'm so tech illiterate, but I appreciate anyone with the patience to get through that and offer a bit of their wisdom :o)

  • @PositivelySIMful  I don't use mods, so hopefully someone who does will post as well. I have a couple of questions though, hope you can answer them: is it the celebrations or the notification of the holidays that's missing; or both? Is it the fixed holidays, like Winterfest, or the random ones, like Talk Like A Pirate day; or both, as well as your own?

I am wondering how this happens. Do you only have one The Sims 4 folder, in Documents>Electronic Arts; or why do you call them save files?

If you only have one The Sims 4 folder, how do you make sure there are savegames with no mods? Do you disable CC and mods in Game Options>Other, and then follow the recommendation to exit the game completely, not just to Main Menu?

I wonder if you would have the same issues if you created a new The Sims 4 folder, by renaming the one you have to for instance The Sims 4Mods. When starting the game anew the game will create a new user folder. Exit the game, and open your old The Sims 4Mods folder; cut the savegames that you do not play with mods in; paste them into the Saves folder in the new The Sims 4 folder. Repair the game again, and twice for good measure. Load the new The Sims 4 folder and see if the holidays are back in your non-mod savegames.

  • @PositivelySIMful I have read reports that any mod setting that alters game time speed, like this one in MCCC, can permanently corrupt a game save. It has something to do with the Seasons calendar not being in sync with the rest of the game clock. I'm not saying this has definitely happened to you I am just saying there is a chance.

There is also the potential of corrupted data being transferred to your non-modded game saves through Sims 4 cache files. You might want to consider using a few precautions if you decide to continue playing it:

    • Anytime you have loaded this save in your game, you should delete the localthumbcache.package file from your Sims 4 folder before you load & play any of your non-modded saves. If I had to guess, this file is how your modded save is affecting your non-modded saves when you load and play them. It is safe to delete this file, the game will auto-generate a new cache file the next time you launch it.
    • If you see any issues while playing your non-modded saves, stop playing immediately and exit without saving
    • Make a back-up copy of your Saves folder and keep it in a safe place on your computer, just in case.

You can try to save your favorite households and lots to your Library and importing them into a new test save just to see how everything looks. There are also some basic troubleshooting steps you can try with your modded save so let us know if you are interested in learning more about those.

I use MCCC in almost all of my game saves and it has never caused me any problems but I understand that there is always some risk involved with using any mod. When I go from playing a modded save to un-modded saves I completely remove all mods and CC, except for the Resource.cfg file, from my Mods folder (rather than just disabling them in my Game settings) and then I delete the localthumbcache.package file. I do this every time there is a new game patch. I am super-cautious about keeping all of my mods and CC updated. I don't have any familiarity with the other mods you listed, but for any mod it's best to only use the most recent versions that have been verified to be compatible with the current game patch.

Good luck, I hope this helps :D

I am just a regular Sims player, I do not work for EA, Sony, or Microsoft.

@PositivelySIMful I have the same issue. I get a holiday LE without mods. It’s probably the save file. I looked at all solutions and never changed my game clock so that is not the issue. I never run the game after the update until I update mods. My theory is that this is probably an EA issue. I am repairing the game and will try again. Then backup my save and run a brand new game and see if I get LE again. mccc, BE or even the exception file cannot state what mod is the issue which tells me it’s probably none of them. I have to either start a new game or recover old saves until the one that doesn’t have it. Unfortunately all suggested solutions I’ve seen either do not apply or do not work. It’s very frustrating since I am very careful and literally run the game only after updating mods. To me playing without mods is not an option since this game is trash 🚮 in terms of gameplay. It’s pretty to look at but compared to its predecessors it lacks animation, is overly pc, focused on lipstick and provides half the game play.
