My sims never return home from work. (Possible bug?)

I'm not sure if this counts as a bug or if I'm just doing something wrong so I didn't fling it into the bugs section.

Is anyone else having an issue where their sims go to work and then never stop working? To clarify, they'll go to work and then "return home". I can see them on the home lot but their little icon at the bottom of the screen is greyed out as if they are still working. I cannot open their inventories, they cannot interact with anything and my only option is to get them to a quit their jobs.

I've tried using the debug option on the sims but it has no effect.

I also saw another discussion thread saying that all you needed do was to go into build mode or travel with the sim in question and that would fix the issue. I have tried both methods and nothing has worked.

Just wondering if anyone knows that is going on and if it's a bug.

I suppose I should also clarify that I play the sims on a Mac and I do have CC but no mods.

  • Hello!

Thanks so much for your reply! My issue looks very similar to the image that you linked except my sims do have the work icon. It's as if they go to work and remain at work. Even when their shift time is over and they teleport back to their home lot, the at work symbol remains and their inventory can't be opened.

I'll double check though! And I do appreciate your reply and the link to the other post!

Edited to add an image just in case I might be missing something. As you can see, it's already past 4PM but my sim is "still at work" and it also means that when the next work day comes, he can't go to work because the game seems to think that he's already there. The only way I have found to fix this is to quit my game.

This is totally my bad but I realised it might actually be some of my CC causing this issue! I'm just going to comb through my folder and hope that it'll resolve the issue 🙂

I play on console, no cheats, and this happens to me from time to time. Usually, saving and then restarting the game fixes the issue. If I don't feel like restarting the game, playing a different household and then returning back to the problem household, also fixes this issue for me.
