New patch pop up won't close / freezes in main menu

Hi guys,

With the latest patch update (the pronoun update) I'm having problems closing out the pop up that appears in the main menu when I enter the game. The pop up won't 'x' off my screen and I have to force quit my game (on Mac).

I removed my Mods folder and re-entered the game, and the pop up closes no problem. I played for a bit, saved and closed.

I then re-added each mod 1 at a time but the pop up a. re-appears again as if I hadn't already seen it and b. won't close down. So I have to force quit once again.

It's clearly a mod issue but I have tested each one... and removed them one at a time but can't identify the mod causing the issue so it seems they all are..?

Is this happening to anyone else..!?!?

The mods I use are:

MC Command Centre

SCCO with custom food & drink interactions

Build buy overhaul

UI cheats extension

Arnie's Plumbob

Zero's autonomy mod and some other minor script mods of his

Icemunmun and Brazen's custom food and harvestables

A lot of CAS items

A lot of decor items

  • @alexr6794  Just to be thorough, please let the game create a new Mods folder and use that one rather than your existing one.  Download one mod that's been updated for this patch, delete localthumbcache.package, and see whether the problem still exists.  If it does, please try clicking around the X button for the pop-up, as in, try to figure out if you actually need to click a little below the button or something similar.

Thank you so much puzzleaddict! That worked - I had been using the old Mods folder and just pasting my mods in there. I also hadn't deleted localthumbcache.package. Thanks again I appreciate your help!

Experiencing the exact same thing. I have uninstalled and reinstalled, I have repaired, I have taken out all script mods, Only loading in With CC. As you stated if I don’t put or CC then I can click it away no problem.

I have tried the method allowing the game to create clean folders and transferring my items and it’s still the same problem.

For me, it did not work until I started trying the 50/50 method. It was then that I remembered that I had reinstalled the game as I had wiped my pc. Because of that, I hadn't unchecked the box that shows the list of cc in your game on the start up menu. I seen it since I dropped 1 mod folder in to find the culprit. I unchecked that box and then closed my game. As the mods folder I was using was a copy from my desktop computer where the game was working fine, I just decided to throw all the folders back in. When I longed in this time the game worked fine. So that cc list box was what was freezing my game when I tried to close the lovestruck pop up. Now it works just fine.

I do not in anyway work for EA

@Rosie_Lee96 Just as an added note, then, since you have enough CC to freeze that box, you might want to go through it for duplicates etc. Those are increasingly likely in large mod folders.

Clearing out the thumbcache didn't work for me and creating a new mod didn't work, but this below DID -- which was a suggestion from another user. (THANK YOU!)

If you have a lot of CC/mods installed and you have the pop up that shows all your mods at start up this may be impacting the sims menu popup that alerts you about new packs or updates. Essentially it makes you unable to close that initial menu popup, because in the background your CC popup is timing out or taking a really long time to load.

    1. Take all your cc out of the mods folder except for ONE item and your resource.cgi file.

    2. Load your game, you should be able to close the new stuff or add-on pack alert from Sims.

    3. Behind that your cc/mods enabled popup should show up, down at the bottom de-select the option for "always show on startup".

    4. Close the game move all your mods back in and viola. Next time you launch, you should be able to now close the menu popup.

I didn't have to go through each and every mod to "find the one that's causing the issue" -- it was just because I had so many mods it was taking forever to load an freezing.
