Not getting the "ask about career" interaction

Help! I'm not getting the ask about career interaction. I was getting it before, even for my unemployed Sims. Now I'm not. I'm trying to get my Sims to "Discuss explaining the family" but I'm not getting that interaction, either.

This is a friendly interaction. If you don't see it at first select more under friendly until you see it. Notice if the Sim is in your household and do not have a job you will not have the option. I do not know what you mean by "Discuss explaining the family".
