Orphaned child mod?

If you have the MCCC mod, there is an option in the settings to have children adopted by another household if their parents die.
MCCC Settings > Gameplay Settings > Adopt Neglected Child

I do have MCCC and I forgot I had that setting. It will work for a played household as well?

You could also use Manage Households to move the toddler into another household before the parents die. One of my Sims got Eliza Pancakes pregnant, and she aged to elder after the baby was born; the baby aged up to child (pre-toddler era) and I moved the child in with my Sim's mother and family.

It will work with a played household also. If you prefer though, you could do what stilljustme2 suggested and move the toddler to another household before the parents die.
