I have to concur with you. My hubby and I are now on our second pair of Beagles. We had males, the first time. Takket was my dog. We really picked each other upon meeting for the first time. He was quite the comedian, for one. But the example that stands out the most was when he 'asked' for the fireplace to be turned on (ours is a gas-driven one, you flick a switch, instant fire). For some reason my hubby didn't turn it on when he first got up. Takket positioned himself in front of the fireplace (a couple of feet back from it) gazed at the fire, gazed over at my hubby, then back at the fire. The message was pretty clear. The dogs both loved to curl up on their blankets or beds and warm themselves.
As far as EA goes, they think a dog house is abusive. Face/palm. Well, it can shelter them from the heat and the cold and the rain, if left outside!
I'd hate to know what they think about those of us who use crates. (You simply cannot leave a Beagle uncrated when unsupervised.) You wouldn't leave a two-year-old alone, right?
