I resisted using the pose player for a long time because I assumed it was more complicated to use than it actually is. I don't typically use it for my general storytelling pictures, but I do use it for big family shots at parties and weddings. Most of the pictures on my Sims' walls are posed shots. There's no way I'd be able to get group shots like this without it:

I have used it for storytelling purposes on rare occasions where I needed some variety from in-game animations. For example, I had one post where one of my teenage Sims' father passed away, and I wanted to show the rest of her family comforting her. Rather than have six shots in a row of Sims hugging, I turned to the pose player for some help:
