Problem with folders after reinstalling Sims 4

Hi all,

I've been playing Sims 4 on my old laptop for ages, but I run into problems when trying to install the game on my new gaming laptop. When reinstalling from the EA App, the folder lay-out is totally different and I can't seem to change that. I don't have folders dedicated to mods, saves etc. anymore (there seem to be different folders for each EP, with weird subfolders in them), and therefore I cannot transfer my old data to my newly installed game. I really don't want to give up my mods or the save files I've been working on for years, but I don't know how to fix it. Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

Thanks in advance!

  • @SimplyNL_94The weird folder with all the EP sub folders is the Game's actual program files. The user data for Sims 4 on Windows is typically located in either

    C:\Users\[your user name]\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4

or on newer machines it could be located in your OneDrive folder

    \OneDrive\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4

Check these locations for your mod and save folders

  • @Caerfinon Thanks for you fast response! Unfortunately, I don't have a seperate folder in either of these locations. However, I do seem to have an 'Electronic Arts' folder next to an 'EA Games' folder in my Program Files that I can't seem to move -- could that be part of the problem?

@SimplyNL_94 The EA Games folder is in the right place, but the Electronic Arts folder really should be in the Documents folder where ever that is on you drive. It may be that the game has no write permissions to the folder in your Programs Files.

You may have to use administrative privileges to move it.

Have you tried a complete reinstall from scratch?
  • @Caerfinon Yes, I tried reinstalling the game a couple of times, as well as the EA App in general. Everytime, the EA App puts the Electronic Arts folder in the same spot next to the EA Games folder under Program Files, and I can't seem to chose another location for that.

When I try to move the Electronic Arts folder later, I get the notification that I can't since 'a file is opened somewhere'. However, all programs and the EA App are fully closed (in the background as well)...
