Re: Open floor over stairs deletes them and makes roof enter enclosed room

@mushiem

I think I understand what you are trying to do.  You are trying to create an open stairwell.  To get those to work, try this.

1 - On the second floor above where the open stairwell will be, draw walls or a fence around the area you want to be open.  Then delete the floor.  You should be able to see the floor below through the hole you just made.

2 - Change the wall to a fence across the front of the stair, where the top landing will be.  The other sides don't matter but the top step needs a fence for the stair to place properly.

3 - If you are planning to use a bent stair, put the stair down in the yard or somewhere you have enough room to rotate the stair.  (I do this because I always end up with my bent stairs facing in the wrong direction.)  Then configure the stair how you want it.

4 - Once you have the stair configured how you want it so it will fit the hole in the floor you made, then move it into the house on the floor below the hole. It should place properly and the top landing will remove the fence section automatically.

If this doesn't work, come back with a screenshot or two so I can see what your exact build looks like.  If you like, you can upload the build to the Gallery and let me know here and I will be happy to download the lot and take a look at it.

Hope this helps.

    @CGrant56 Hi, thank your for your reply, unfortunately I have already tried this and it still doesn't work. When I put up the fence, the stairs get automatically deleted, anything that isn't a full wall ends up with the stairs getting deleted. In addition, if I change the wall that separates the open floor from the rest of the room to a fence, the roof accosting the room intrudes as if the space wasn't enclosed anymore. For now I've solved this by changing the roof so it's only on the outside and I'll have to make do with that. Thank you anyway.

    I'm glad you found a workaround.  The thing about the fence in the front of the stairs where the stair landing ends up:  The fence has to be there first before you place the stairs.  Otherwise the game won't see the stairwell as a separate room.  So if you are trying to place the fence after the stair is in place, it won't work since the space won't be seen as fully enclosed.  In this particular case, the order in which you do things matters a lot and has to be done in a particular order.  Walls or fence around the opening, delete the floor, change wall to fence on the front, then place the stairs.  The roof does make it a bit more difficult so it's best to place it last so it won't intrude into the stairwell.

    Hope this helps.
