Re: Some of my expansion packs CAS items are showing up red/white with "?" marks

@Miira18

Progress at least.  One pack is showing now.  I am surprised by the packs not showing.  JA is from 2018 and SE is from 2020.  I was expecting you to say Horse Ranch or Growing Together tbh, since they are the newest.

Regardless, you still have the problem for JA.  So, next step.  You didn't say, but was the problem there for JA with your mods out of the game path?  If they were out and everything shows, and then the problem came back when you put your mods folder back in, then you've got a bad CC item more than likely.  It could be a mod, but a broken CC item is more likely.  You'll need to go through everything to find it to update or remove it.  Depending on how much CC you have, you can test them one at the time if you just have a few things or use the 50/50 method if you have a lot.  Another thing you can do to test CC is look at them in Sims4Studio.  You could be surprised what you find using S4S to look at things.  I know I was when I went through my CC.  Lots of broken items that never even showed up in the game at all.  Cleaning all the broken stuff out really does help game performance so I'd recommend doing that at least once to anybody.

But if the problem was still there when you ran the game without your mods folder in, then you can try a user folder reset.  Just rename your current The Sims 4 folder to something else.  Start the game and once you've gone through creating and placing the sim, save and quit.  The game will create a new The Sims 4 folder when you do that.  Then copy the saves and mods folders from the old The Sims 4 folder that you renamed to the new one.  If you use any graphics overrides, copy the ConfigOverride folder too.  If you want to keep your Library, copy the Tray folder and the same for the Custom Music folder if you have any.

Then restart the game, go to CAS and see if the problem is still there.  If it's gone, then you're good to go.  If not, come back and we can go from there.

Hope this helps.

Yes the problem with Jungle Adventure is  still there even without mods and CC. I will try your suggestion and I'll give an update. Thanks again for the help.

@CGrant56 HI, so I just tried and the JA items are still broken. I have also uninstalled and redownloaded the Sims game but J.A is still the same with and without mods and cc.

S.E is working fine with and without mods and cc.
  • I just realised I never added a picture of the problem. This is what my J.A GP CAS items look like.

Thanks for the pic.  That gives me a clearer idea of what is going on.  And it almost has to be broken or outdated CAS CC.  It could also be a CC item embedded in a mod.

Did you have JA installed and everything worked before, or has it always been this way since installing JA?  And when did the problem start?  I assumed that it was pretty recent, like in the last week or so.  We had a patch on Sept 5, so was the problem there BEFORE the patch or did it show up AFTER the patch?

The patch broke a bunch of stuff.  When your issue started will give a better idea of the source.

    Hope this helps.

@CGrant56 Hi, it worked after the new patch update on the 5th, then it just stopped working on the 12th, I only updated my CC and Mods a day after the update.

I don't know if this is important but my EA account is linked to Epic Games because that's where I got the J.A GP during a promo.

Since you saved after seeing the error the change is now permanent in that save.

Move your Mods folder to the Desktop and delete localthumbcache.package. Then test the game in a new save.
Check for updates to your Mods and CC. Add it back a little at a time while testing until you have found all that are broken.

Hi @Miira18! Some CC skins and facial features were affected by the patch, and although this isn't the issue I've seen reported for them (usually it's related to Aliens), I wouldn't rule it out. It's also possible that you've got a couple of items in your Mods folder conflicting with each other.

I know you said you tested "vanilla", but I'd like to do a 100% test on that - the level including a whole new Sims 4 folder.

Drag your WHOLE Sims 4 folder to your desktop, so that it's gone from inside Electronic Arts. Restart the game so it generates a new one. Now start a new save. Do you still see the issue? If that solves the issue, we can start on isolating where the content problem is.

@jpkarlsen Hi, I've done this a few times and it is still the same error with the Jungle.A
I still haven't put any of my mods or CC back since I removed them the 2nd time I tried testing them.

@luthienrisingHi yes. I've removed the folder and ran the game, it created a new folder and the issue is still there. I haven't put any mods or CC back in my game. I thought I'd put them back after I can get it working.

I don't think the account connection to Epic has anything to do with this.  It could, but I just don't see how it could.  The game is on your computer, not in the cloud so the download source should not matter.  If it did, then everything associated with JA should not be working.  The Selvadorada world and all build buy items would also not work in that case.

    A couple more questions.

Do the other JA CC items do the same thing as the dresses that you show in your pic?  There are 6 female tops, 2 female bottoms and the 2 full body outfits.  There are also 3 hats and 4 hair styles.  Do any of those work?

Is it happening just for females or is the male JA clothing affected too?  There are 6 male tops and 4 male bottoms.  There are also the same 2 hats and 4 hair styles for males.  Does all of the male items work?

Another thing it could be is that this is save specific and your save has become corrupted.  To figure that out, try starting a new save with all your mods and CC in the game.  Just hit New Game rather than Resume or Load at the Main Menu.  And then start another save with all your mods and CC out of the game.   If the problem is still happening in the new save with mods and CC in and not in the new save with mods and CC not in, then it comes back to something in your CC.

One other thing, you need to delete the localthumbcache file every time you add or remove CC before starting the game as you test.

    Hope this helps.

Yes this problem occurs with all J.A CAS items, in both male and female (hairs, tops, hats, bottoms, dresses, etc).

I have also just had a look and the J.A Selvadorra world is also glitchy. There's no lots showing up, just the background. I forgot to screenshot one of the lots that popped up when a Sim invited my Sim to one of the lots in Selvadorra, it was purple and green with "?" all over. but I have a screenshot of the overall world.

I have been deleting the localthumbcache file everytime before I open the game.

I haven't added any mods or CC except when I was asked to and the problem is still occuring.

I have removed any previous saves I had before the problem started and I have the new save files with the problem.

  • @Miira18 Also, when my sim was invited to the lot in Selvadorra, my sim was not able to move or perform any interaction there and my whole screen started glitching and freezing. As i said in the previous post, it was purple and green with "?" marks all over, I had to force the Sims app to close through Task Manager as my laptop was freezing.

Ok then, so we know all of JA is affected, not just those 2 outfits which makes it a bigger issue with a different cause.

Where did the rest of your packs come from?  EA, Steam, Epic, etc.  If JA is the only one that has the problem, then the problem is probably with the source i.e., Epic or a combination of the app you use to start and play the game and Epic.

How do you start the game?  Do you start from the EA App, Steam, or Epic?  There have been some reports that sometimes they don't play well together and give people problems like you are having.  It's certainly looking like that might be your problem.

What gets me is that everything was working up to the 12th for you.  It could have been that something other than the game got updated on or about the12th that set this all off.  I know the EA App was updated in the last day or so, but I can't remember when it was updated before that.  I'm not sure how Epic works but if it does reside on your computer like the EA App does, then maybe there was an update for that.  And Steam, I haven't a clue about.  But that is what it is starting to look like to me.

    Hope this helps.

@Miira18 Seems to me the next thing to do is to repair the game from the EA App. It could be a game installation error.

Hi, I've been repairing my game before I start playing as well as deleting the localthumbcache. I have even Uninstalled the game with all my packs and re-downloaded them but it's still happening. I even only downloaded J.A to see if it was happening with it being the only pack installed or if conflicting with any other pack. But even when it was the only pack installed it was still "broken"

Please try getting the base game from Epic (it is free) then launch the game from the Epic Launcher. Test in a new game if it works. Remember to have removed any Mods/CC before testing.

Let's try something else.  You issue is similar to the missing worlds issue since the JA world is affected by this.  It could be an incomplete installation.  You can try disabling the JA pack and then reenable it.  It will take you some work to save lots and households to your library where you've used any items from JA.  But it will restore JA to its default, out of the box, state just like it was when you first installed it.  Just follow the directions in this post.
