Are there any good sickness mods out there? I don't want anything too lethal or insanely contagious, but I want my Sims to actually be affected when they develop an illness beyond a weak moodlet that ...

Otherwise, there is Private Practice by SimRealist & Healthcare redux by adeepindigo. I've used Private Practice and I liked it, but I think there's been a lot of updates since I last used it, so I can't comment on the current version of the mod. Healthcare redux I've yet to check out but I've watched some YouTube videos on it and it looks interesting, if not a little bit buggy when it comes to booking doctors appointments etc. But you can check them out for yourself and see if they are what you are looking for :)
I tried to do that with Slice of Life but I couldn't get rid of all the things I disliked, so I gave up and just yanked the full mod out!
Private Practice looks really good and in-depth, so I think I might give that a go.
